“We can walk through the darkest night with the radiant conviction that all things work together for the good.”
- Martin Luther King Jr.

“Perhaps it would be a good idea, fantastic as it sounds, to muffle every telephone, stop every motor and halt all activity for an hour some day to give people a chance to ponder for a few minutes on what it is all about, why they are living, and what they really want. ”
- Hasu J Vora
Today’s Sunday, so can you fit in an hour to spend some time just with yourself without any distractions or interruptions? Leave a comment to let us know how this experience was for you today.
“There’s no such thing as a soul. It’s just something they made up to scare kids, like the boogeyman or Michael Jackson.”
- Bart Simpson
So according to Bart Simpson, there’s no such thing as a soul. What do you think? Do you agree with little Bart that a soul is just something made up to scare kids? When you were little, if you were about to do something wrong, maybe you heard the expression “paap thase”, which means you’ll bind paap (negative) karma to your soul. So what do you say? The soul’s a good thing, or is it a scary thing?
“If we could read the secret history of our enemies, we should see sorrow and suffering enough to disarm all hostility.”
- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
“An honourable human relationship, that is, one in which two people have the right to use the word love, is a process of deepening the truths they can tell each other. It is important to do this because it breaks down human self-delusion and isolation.”
- Adrienne Rich
Maybe it’s time to stop playing the game of mystery, and just open up wholeheartedly to the completeness of my being. Maybe it’s time to lay all my cards on the table, open out my hand, and authentically express who I am, what I want, and what I’m here to offer. Perhaps then, and only then, will the richness of love, from one and all, flow peacefully throughout my life. What do you think, is it time to be totally transparent?
“Totaphobia, a fear of absolutely everything.”
Can you imagine what it’s like to be scared of absolutely anything and everything? How mad is it to get scared when the sun sets and darkness fills your world? How silly is it to get upset when the snow melts? How ridiculous is it to break down when your mother dies, knowing full well that no-one lives forever.
What is this thing that we know as fear? Is it that we fear having something, or is it that we fear NOT having it? Is it that we fear the car crash, or is it that we fear the loss of mobility when faced with a car crash?
Come off it! What are you desperately trying to hold onto it for? Do you really think it’s going to last forever?
“Now, liberty, in case you’ve forgotten, is the soul’s right to breath”
- Good Will Hunting, Hollywood movie, 1997
“We don’t receive wisdom; we must discover it for ourselves after a journey that no one can take for us.”
- Marcel Proust
“You talk of disappearing. Do you not see something appearing? Why emphasize that which is lost? Why do you not see that which is gained?”
- Pujyashree Chitrabhanuji, Twelve Facets of Reality
“Aladdin: Let’s see, three wishes. I want them to be good… what would you wish for?
Genie: Me? No one’s ever asked me that before. Well, in my case… no, forget it.
Aladdin: What?
Genie: [sigh] Freedom.”
- from Disney’s Aladdin (1992)
The all-powerful genie could magic up just about anything its master could ever dream of. OK, granted - the genie wouldn’t have been able to make someone fall in love, bring someone back from the dead, or offer more than three wishes to it’s master, but it could do ANYTHING else.
Of all the things the genie could ever command, it desired just one thing… freedom.
The genie was destined to spend eternity, living out of a tiny magic lamp, at the beck and call of any master who would happen to find the lamp. There was only one way the genie could have got freedom - if it’s master offered one of his wishes to set it free.
That’s the difference between the genie and you. Although both of you have within you the power and determination to orchestrate whatever you want, the genie is still dependant on it’s master to set it free, whereas the only person who is responsible for your freedom is…. you guessed it - YOU!
